Help bring our new feature film to life!

Bite of Bénin is a transformative feature-length documentary that continues the powerful journey first introduced in our award-winning short film. The film follows the journey of Adé, a Chef reconnecting with her African roots through food as a means of healing, identity, and cultural rediscovery. The story delves into the power of food to bridge histories of trauma, displacement, and colonization, highlighting how cooking can be both a personal and collective act of reclaiming heritage. Using food as an accessible language, Chef Adé finds herself exploring the complex history of West African cuisine and its transformation in the diaspora, the challenges women face in domesticated labor, and the idea of home even amongst displacement. With mentors like Chef Georgiana Viou (the first black woman to win a Michelin star) and many others, Adé discovers the profound connections between culinary traditions, family, and self-identity. The film intertwines these themes with a poetic, sensory approach, capturing the intricate beauty of cooking and its role in mending broken lineages.

Behind the Scenes

Through Bite of Benin, we seek to challenge stereotypes, honor the complexity of identity, and shift the narrative of adoption. At its core, this film is more than a documentary—it’s a movement to build a global community rooted in empathy, understanding, and mutual support.

It’s about showing up for one another, celebrating the power of food as a tool for healing, and shining a spotlight on the incredible individuals whose stories deserve to be told. By exploring themes of identity, heritage, and connection, we aim to uplift the voices of chefs, adoptees, storytellers, and culture-bearers who are reclaiming and redefining their narratives.

We invite you to join us on this journey of discovery and intentionality. In the meantime, we’re thrilled to share a few short edits from our initial filming in Bénin, offering a glimpse into the vibrant stories and profound connections that will shape this film. This is just the beginning, and we’re so grateful for your partnership!
